- General CommentI think this song is about a woman who is in love with a man who is 'freed from desire', meaning that he isn't interested in material possesions, his strength comes from who he is rather than what he has. She loves the fact that he is looking for freedom and love rather than fame and money.
- Freed from Desire This song is by Gala and appears on the album Come Into My Life (1997). My love has got no money, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no power, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no fame, he's got his strong beliefs My love has got no money.
I really wish to be free from desire. In fact, I desire it :)
Free From Desire Chords
Seriously now.
I always have a main hobby in which I invest myself and put pressure on myself. For example, when I cycled I wanted 'x' km per year. When I read a lot, I wanted to read 100 books in a year (check!). Now I play Go and I want to reach 1 Dan (a certain strength).
Every time it stumps my enjoyment of that hobby (not completely, of course, but it's still not good and it causes frustration at times, or undue pressure).
The good side is, whenever I find a new hobby, passion or you could call it obsession, I manage to continue doing the old purely for fun. I still read a lot, but only for fun and I don't count the books. I still use my bike constantly, but I don't care about how many km I ride.
So I have already managed to free myself from many desires, but at seems to me I always replace it with a new one.
It probably comes from a deeper problem where I have the need to 'prove' myself, to prove I am smart, prove I am 'special', prove I can achieve something.
Yet I wish I could just be content as I am. Why do I constantly want to (im)prove myself? Take the simple example of playing Go. I'm in love with that game. Why can't I just enjoy it as I am? No, I have to keep progressing. It's so useless..
Free From Desire Song
Or is that natural, and shouldn't I worry about it too much and simply continue trying to free myself from those desires? If so, how?
Appreciate any input! Hope the above is clear, it's hard to put into words!

Other versions[edit]
In 2016, Gala recorded an acoustic version of 'Freed from Desire' at Les Studios Saint Germain in Paris, for the movie Un homme à la hauteur directed by Laurent Tirard with Jean Dujardin (Academy Awards for Best Actor 2012, The Artist).
The chorus was adapted in 2012 by Stevenage F.C. fans for winger Luke Freeman as: 'Freeman's on fire, your right back is terrified!'[2] Following that, in early 2016, Newcastle United supporters adapted the song for their striker Aleksandar Mitrović, the refrain being: 'Mitro's on fire, your defence is terrified', which has also been used by fans of Fulham FC.[3] However, Mitrović suffered poor form; the chant came into greater prominence in May of that year, as Wigan Athletic supporter Sean Kennedy uploaded on YouTube his version of 'Freed from Desire' titled 'Will Grigg's on Fire', in recognition of the recent goal-scoring feats of Will Grigg, a Wigan player.[4] Since it was uploaded, the song has become a viral football chant.[4][5] This version was recorded by dance producers Blonde under the alias DJ Kenno, and it reached No. 76 on the UK single chart.[6][7]
Fans from Northern Ireland also sang 'Will Grigg's on Fire', notably during UEFA Euro 2016, as he played for Northern Ireland.[8][9] Fans of Ireland, Wales, England, and France made their own versions of the song for their players, such as 'Vardy's on Fire' and 'Grizi's on Fire'.[10][11] It was later seen as the unofficial song of UEFA Euro 2016.[12] 'Freed from Desire' itself was used as the unofficial anthem for the Belgian team during the 2018 FIFA World Cup.[13]
